Stop Sweatshops!

Stop the exploitation of poor people of other countries.

Sweatshops are a big problem that are looked upon very lightly. In many small countries around the world, young children and their mothers and fathers are making luxuries for you and I. Companies such as Nike pay children five cents per shoe that they make, and then charge you $70.00 for the same pair of shoes. If you don't care at all about them, also take into consideration how these companies are hustling $70.00 out of you when it only cost them 10 cents to make the shoes. Not only Nike does this. Coca-Cola has people in South America manufacture their bottles for them. When union organizers start to organize worker unions, Coca-Cola sends a hit squad after him or her to kill them and prevent workers from gaining rights.

One way to disscontinue support for the companies that exploit others in sweatshops is to make sure the products you buy say "MADE IN THE USA" on the tag or label. There are several clothing and textile companies in the U.S. which are unionized and might be more money, but the price increase is not that great. The clothes are a better quality and send no money support to sweatshops. If you don't want to spend the extra money, a simple solution is to check out thrift stores. The clothes are pre-owned so none of the money goes towards sweatshops. They may be pre-worn but hey, that seems to be coming in fashion anyways. You might as well pay less for it and go towards a good cause. Look on everything you buy to see if it is made and packaged in the U.S. This will stop the cash-flow from you at least to the sweatshops. For those who think that only they won't make a difference, maybe you're right. But does that mean you're going to forget about it and help the corporations exploit third world countries?

There's a five 5¢ difference between slavery and sweatshops.

Supporting sweatshops is supporting slavery.

Workers in sweatshops work in very poor conditions. Young children will work their hands to blisters to make the money they need to survive while we take these products for granted, paying a price that gives rediculous profit to the corporation that is exploiting these people. Health conditions claim lives in these factories and anybody who goes to complain to anybody is quickly silenced by hired men who keep the workers in line.

More than clothes.

More than just clothing is made in sweatshops. Toys are often made in developing countries by low-paid laborers.

Many food and drink products are also packaged and bottled in sweat shops. One example given was the Coca-Cola bottling company. Start checking your labels.
